Tech-Talk: Listings, Comparisons and Reviews of No-Contract Wireless Phone, Text and Data Providers

This is a guest post from Sage Harman, a Living Free . . . reader.

Since living free often means being free from wired services and contractual commitments of most kinds - especially two year wireless contracts - I thought Sage's sage information would be useful to any readers shopping for a new no-contract service.

Have you ever been surprised to find charges you're not aware of - data fees, miscellaneous surcharges and fees - on your monthly phone or broadband statement? Frustrating, right? Especially if you are managing your usage very carefully. I myself prefer a no-contract service plan. No-contract plans will not tie you down with long-term commitments. If you are not satisfied with the service, you can cancel it and switch to another provider. Granted that many service providers offer discounts on phone units if you choose a contract plan, but say you're not happy with the service, what would you do then? Continue to pay for a service you don't want? With no-contract plans, be it phone or broadband, you have the peace of mind that you pay according to your usage so that if you’re in a tight budget, you can opt to pay the same amount of bill every month.

Major phone carriers today offer no-contract plans. There are different monthly plans that you can choose from depending on your phone usage needs. Obviously, it’s best to choose a phone provider that offers unlimited minutes, text messages, and data usage. If you’re in the market for a new service plan, remember to evaluate all your options before making a decision, do your research. And you can also visit No-Contract-Plans.com for free information on no-contract service plans. They provide specs on various popular no-contract plans, reviews, pros and cons so that consumers will be able to compare plans and find the no-contract plan that best fits their budget, local coverage area, and usage needs. The more informed you are, the more likely you are to make the best decision.

Thank you so much for your consideration! Hope you had a fantastic holiday!

I looked at Sage's Web site and she has compiled a lot of useful information and links to a variety of providers and plans. It is a free site. She is also adding new providers as she learns of them. For example, I didn't find Millenicom on her site, so I mentioned it to her and she is adding them as a wireless data provider.

Thanks for the info, Sage.

We haven't had problems with unknown charges as we don't have plans with anyone.
My phone is with Virgin Mobile on the Sprint network, my wife has a Straighttalk phone on the Verizon network and our 20gb of data comes from the Verizon network via Millenicom.
That comes to.. give me a second..$146 a month. TV is over the air....

Sounds like you have it pretty well locked down, Rob. I've been pretty happy with my AT&T wireless voice service, but I'm likely going to switch over to Millenicom for data in the near future. I love my smartphone, so I don't know what direction I'm going to go in the voice phone department in the future, but I'm forever watching all the offerings.

You know the old saying, "if it's not broke, don't fix it".

Have to agree with you there, Rob - that's why I've been with Cingular/AT&T sing 1999 (name changed around 2006 or 2007, I think for the AT&T branding).
