Today was a great day! The sun was bright. The sky was a
deep azure with puffy white clouds. The temperature was in the mid 60's. It was
a near picture perfect day. We had a leisurely morning, packed up the van and as
we were leaving we met the owner of the Country Hearth Inn motel we spent the
night at. She was a friendly, former history teacher who provided us with a lot
of helpful information. The Country Hearth Inn is next to the Gullah Grub
restaurant where we enjoyed our dinner last night.
We're actually on our way back north to Falls Church,
Virginia and then me to base camp in West Virginia. It's been a long day and we
decided to begin the trip back since we'll make it in one day. We reached
Walterboro, South Carolina, a small town off Interstate 95. The van needed gas,
the stomachs needed filling and the eyes were getting heavy. So, we found a
nice Mexican restaurant for dinner, fueled up the van and pulled into a decent
looking Super 8 motel to procure a room for the night.
So, this is going to be a short post tonight. I'll finish
off the Day 5 experience in the next day or two. Suffice to say the mission -
"in search of the Gullah culture" - has been a success. I'll be back
this way to learn more and meet more people. My buddy, Dave, may return, also,
with or without me. And now for some rest.
